My goal is to organize patterns that are freely available on the web onto a CD-ROM. A CD can easily hold thousands of patterns and I'd like to use as much of that capacity as possible. I wanted to organize these patterns into categories with pretty little clickable thumbnail pictures. I also wanted to add a nice keyword search. Hubby wrote a search utility for me, and after I saw how GREAT it worked (and looked!), I wanted to use it as the heart of the project. You can browse by category or search by keywords, and you get to see a preview thumbnail when your mouse moves over the results. Too cool!
There are several people out there that are making a valiant effort to do this already and still you can't help but run into broken links, sites temporarily shut down due to high traffic, network problems and slow downloads. Having the pattern files themselves locally would solve all of these problems. And you could also do away with annoying pop-up ads.
I'd like to charge less than $10. After all, these are patterns that are available freely. I'm just trying to provide something fun and useful, and I'm not trying to make a fortune. I am trying to aim for a price low enough to make the CD easily affordable but just high enough that I don't end up losing money on the project.
Just send me email at kelly@willtatforthread.com and let me know! I do want to have a written and signed release for all patterns that I include. Anyone who contributes patterns to the project will receive a free copy of the cd when it is finished.
